About Muktinath
Muktinath, at about 3,710 m in the Mustang district of Nepal, is sacred to Hindus as one of the 108 Divya Desams of Vishnu and to Buddhists as Chumig Gyatsa. Pilgrims bathe under the 108 water spouts and in the two kunds before darshan.
ID for Indians
Indian citizens need no visa for Nepal. Carry a valid passport or voter ID. Children carry a birth certificate or passport. An Annapurna Conservation Area permit is needed for Muktinath, which we arrange.
The route
- Fly to Kathmandu, darshan at Pashupatinath
- Fly or drive to Pokhara
- Early-morning flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, about 20 minutes
- Jeep from Jomsom to Ranipauwa, then a short walk or pony ride to the temple
Jomsom flights cancel in high wind, usually after mid-morning, so keep a spare day. The road from Pokhara is an alternative, about eight to ten hours by jeep.
Altitude
Muktinath is high. Walk slowly, drink plenty of water and avoid heavy meals. Travellers with heart or lung conditions should consult a doctor first.
When to go
March to May and September to November are the best months. Winter is very cold with snow. The monsoon disrupts flights and roads.
What it costs
Our Pashupatinath and Muktinath Yatra starts from the price on its package page per person on twin sharing, with flights inside Nepal, hotels and permits.
