How to group them
Few pilgrims visit all twelve at once. Practical circuits:

- Maharashtra: Trimbakeshwar, Grishneshwar and Bhimashankar, often with Shirdi, five to six nights
- Gujarat: Somnath and Nageshwar with Dwarka, four to five nights
- South: Mallikarjuna and Rameshwaram, combined with Tirupati or Madurai
- North: Kedarnath in the Char Dham season, and Kashi Vishwanath with Prayagraj and Ayodhya
- East: Vaidyanath at Deoghar, from Patna or Kolkata
Bookings
- Mahakaleshwar bhasma aarti in Ujjain: book online on the temple’s official website well in advance
- Kashi Vishwanath: sugam darshan and aarti tickets online
- Kedarnath: registration with the Uttarakhand portal is mandatory
- Somnath: evening aarti and the light and sound show need no booking
When to go
October to March suits most circuits. Shravan, from July to August, and Maha Shivratri draw the largest crowds. Kedarnath opens only from about May to November.
