About the Magh Mela
Every year in the Hindu month of Magh, from January to February, pilgrims gather at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, the meeting of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. Kalpvasis stay the whole month in tents on the riverbank. The Kumbh and Maha Kumbh follow longer cycles, but the Magh Mela runs every year.
Main bathing dates
The main snan days fall on Paush Purnima, Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Maghi Purnima and Maha Shivratri. Mauni Amavasya draws the largest crowds. Dates move with the lunar calendar. We send the confirmed dates each year.
Where to stay
Tent cities on the mela grounds offer simple to deluxe tents with attached bathrooms. Prayagraj city hotels suit families who prefer a building. Book early for the main snan days.
