About the garden
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden sits on the slopes of the Zabarwan range above Dal Lake. Terraced beds hold more than a million tulips in dozens of varieties, with hyacinths and daffodils around them. It is one of the largest tulip gardens in Asia.
When it blooms
The garden usually opens in late March and the blooms last three to four weeks into April. The exact opening depends on the weather. We follow the J&K Floriculture department’s announcements and confirm dates as spring approaches.
Tickets and timing
Tickets are bought at the gate or online. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and get the softest light for photographs.
Spring in Kashmir
- The Mughal gardens, Nishat, Shalimar and Chashme Shahi, with almond and cherry blossom
- A shikara ride on Dal Lake
- Gulmarg, where snow often lasts into April for the Gondola
- Pahalgam and the Betaab valley in early spring green
Weather
Days run near 15°C to 20°C, nights near 5°C. Pack a light jacket and a warmer layer for Gulmarg.
What it costs
Our Kashmir packages start from the prices on their package pages. Tulip season weeks carry higher hotel and houseboat rates, so book by February.
