Why go in spring
For two weeks each spring, cherry blossoms cover parks, rivers and temples in Japan and South Korea. Locals picnic under the trees, castles and palaces glow at night under lanterns, and the light green of new leaves follows close behind. The season is short and moves with the weather, so timing decides the trip.
When the blossoms bloom
Typical full-bloom windows, which shift a week either way with the weather:
- Jeju: late March
- Busan and Gyeongju: late March to early April
- Seoul: early April
- Tokyo: late March to early April
- Kyoto and Osaka: late March to early April
- Hokkaido: late April to early May
The Japan Meteorological Corporation and Korean weather services publish forecasts from February. We follow them and confirm hotels as the forecast firms up.
Visas for Indians
- Japan: the eVisa for Indian residents is applied online, or a visa through VFS Japan centres, usually five working days
- South Korea: the C-3-9 tourist visa through the Korea Visa Application Centre, about ten working days
Apply six weeks before travel in spring, when centres are busy. Rules checked in October 2026.
Flights
Japan has nonstop flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Tokyo. Seoul has nonstop flights from Delhi. Other Indian cities connect through Southeast Asia. Spring fares rise from February. Book flights by December for an early April trip.

- Kyoto: the Philosopher’s Path, Maruyama Park, Arashiyama and Heian Shrine
- Osaka Castle park

- Jinhae: the largest cherry blossom festival in Korea
- Jeju: Jeonnong-ro and the yellow canola fields at Seongsan
How to plan
- Pick one country and seven to nine nights
- Start in the south and move north to follow the bloom
- Keep two flexible nights in the middle of the trip
- Book hotels early, since spring sells out months ahead
Cherry blossom season coincides with Indian school holidays in some states, which raises demand further.

Our Japan Cherry Blossom package and our Korea itineraries start from the prices on their package pages per person on twin sharing, without airfare. Spring dates carry a seasonal surcharge. Return flights usually cost ₹45,000 to ₹70,000 per person in this season.
